In our previous post we mentioned the tremendous growth and change that our company has undergone in the last couple of years. In today’s installment we would like to take some time to describe those changes and how they will impact our customers.
First of all, our name has changed. Unfortunately, our original name no longer accurately described our mission. Our Heritage Preserved was adopted as our original moniker because it perfectly described our existence at that time. When the company was first formed our only goal was to salvage material from local buildings that were being destroyed or disposed of in landfills. Thus “our heritage” was being “preserved” via the reclamation of this material. Upon discovering that many of the companies that purchased these salvaged materials from us did not share our love of the material we began to process the material ourselves and sale the finished product to select distributors, builders and home owners that understood the unique intrinsic value of the materials. At this point the company was much more than just a reclamation or salvage operation and this led to a great deal of confusion among our customers. Due to this confusion, we all put our heads together in an effort to come up with a name that perfectly fit our new mission of taking these materials from their raw form to usable end products. Dozens of potential names were proposed but after a good deal of careful consideration we decided that Heritage Plank Floors served the dual purpose of paying homage to our original incarnation while plainly defining our new mission.
While a name change might seem like a major change it has been just a small part of the revitalization we have undergone recently. For instance, we have added many new products to our offerings. Originally we viewed recycled materials as the only green flooring option. What we have discovered is that wood from properly managed forests are also viable green options. Another discovery that we made was that most companies turn these newly sawn green woods into the cookie cutter style floors available at your local home repair store. While there is certainly nothing wrong with these flooring options we prefer to deal in more unique custom flooring. Our craftsmen specialize in taking this newly sawn wood and through a variety of different processes produce floors that are much more similar to the floors produced from our recycled wood material.
We have also added an unbelievable amount of expertise and experience to our company. In order to maintain the growth that we began to see we had to add several people to our company. Hiring for a small family owned company is much more difficult than for a large corporation. There are many more considerations that have to be taken into account when hiring for a company like ours. We feel that this leads to finding better people that really go out of their way in every aspect of their job because they feel a personal bond to the company and the people within it, unlike someone in a large faceless corporation. We have literally added hundreds of years of experience in all areas of the flooring industry to a company already rich in experience. These additions will allow our company to continue to grow while maintaining the same commitment to quality we have always had.
Often times growth and change in a company is a bad thing because the characteristics that made the company special are lost. We have worked very hard not to let that happen to our company and we have in fact improved our company in every area.
